IT'S OFFICIAL!!! Cricket fans hold onto your hats, cause the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 fixtures have been released and that can only mean one thing....... the tournament is just around the corner!

If you’re a passionate follower of the international cricket stage, you’ll know that in exactly 392 days, the ICC Cricket World Cup will commence, on May 30th 2019 to be precise. On April 26th 2018, the fixtures and schedule of the tournament were released. The World Cup 2019 competition will be slightly different to the last, with only nine teams participating instead of the fourteen who battled it out for the Championship back in 2015. Scotland, Ireland, Zimbabwe and the United Arab Emirates are the four national teams who didn’t qualify for the 2019 World Cup. The host nations, England and Wales, were awarded hosting rights back in 2006 and each match will be played across a range of well-known and prestigious grounds such as Lord’s (London), Trent Bridge (Nottingham), Old Trafford (Manchester) and Sophia Gardens (Cardiff), just to name a few. Each national team will verse each other once before the final series or “knockout stage”, which consists of two semi-finals and the final.

The current champions, Australia, will head into the tournament looking to retain the World Cup trophy after successfully winning the last competition back in 2015, but things may look a little different this time around as they potentially could be without their captain Steve Smith and opening batsmen, David Warner and youngster Cameron Bancroft, as their exact return to first class cricket is unknown after the unfortunate event of the ball-tampering scandal, which lead to lengthy sanctions for all three players. They will also be without their coach, Darren Lehmann, as he's resignation means a new coach will take over once his stint is complete. Australia’s squad selectors need to select a reasonable ODI (One Day International) squad as their previous results in ODI fixtures have not looked promising for Aussie cricket fans. Their latest ODI series was a shocker, after they were defeated 4-1 against traditional rivals, England, after their Magellan Ashes 2017-18 series victory. Although, the Aussie’s do have the opportunity to rewrite their misfortune, as the national team will head over to England to face the Poms in June for another ODI series. They will also face South Africa in November and India in January down under.
